Mika Utzon Popov (born Copenhagen 4 May 1971) is an Australian-Danish artist specialising in large scale site specific sculptural installations, design and drawing. Utzon Popov graduated from the National Art School in Sydney, majoring in Painting and Drawing.
Utzon Popov is based in Sydney, Australia and works with a number of international clients and architects for both private and public commissions.
His most recent and notable works include the artistic concept design for R. M. Williams new flagship store in Soho, NYC, which included two unique concrete sculptural works and leather design. A large scale Concrete and Steel facade for Architects Marchese Partners and numerous works in progress with SJB architects to be completed in 2017 and 2018. 2016 also saw the completion of a private commission, uniquely crafted in the factory of Petersen Tiles in Denmark and installed in Sydney.
Utzon Popov strives to implement the design whether it be a privately commissioned drawing or an integrated engineering piece, with the movement of the space that surrounds it and create an experience through dialogue of intent and material. His drawings, particularly his charcoal landscapes, have received critical and commercial acclaim. His designs have been notable for charity causes including The Danish Cancer Council, The Red Cross and Medicines Sans Frontiers.
Utzon Popov is currently working on a series of elegant furniture design and an exhibition exploring the nature of landscape with scientific collaboration.
